Sambalpur division was formed in April'90 by taking sections partly from Chakadharpur division and partly from WAT division. On 15.8.1998, 154 Kilometres of the newly constructed Sambalpur - Talcher line were added to Sambalpur division giving it a total route Km of 705.164 Kilometres.
